This course will help you understand that safety isn’t about protecting you FROM something, but about protecting you FOR something.

Providing you with the tools to take control of your thinking and feelings to improve the results you get in your life, especially regarding safety outcomes, Safety Essentials moves beyond behaviour-based safety, to the underlying psychological causes of behaviour – our thinking.

Through this highly engaging and practical program, you will:

• Explore a simple model for how our brain works so you can take greater control of it
• Develop practical ‘brain tools’ (thinking skills) that assist us to achieve greater results in life and for safety
• Explore ‘The BIG5’ thinking patterns (attitudes) that research tells us are proven to improve our personal safety results.

Key Learning Outcomes

On completing Safety Essentials, you will be able to:

• Understand how you can see safety as a currency, instead of a cost.
• Understand the basic functions and limitations of the brain that relate to safety.
• Recognise attitudes and behavioural strategies to support risk identification and management.
• Apply skills that enable you to take control of your thinking and perspective in life.
• Understand the part that you play in managing your own safety, as well as contributing to a safer team and organisational culture in your workplace.

Course 2 - Safety Leadership Essentials

Program Overview

Safety Leadership Essentials explores the key responsibilities and skills of a business leader to influence a culture that is supportive of safety, wellbeing and professionalism.

The success of fostering a strong safety culture relies on authentic and transformational leadership to:

• Drive the cultural expectations
• Role model expected behaviours
• Effectively coach and influence teams towards ‘safety citizenship’.

This course is a targeted leadership development program that will help you master the 8 leadership competencies that support the journey of your organisation towards safety citizenship: Supporting, Recognising, Role Modelling, Actively Caring, Collaborating, Challenging, Vision and Inspiring.

As part of this program, you will have access to a personalised Safety Leadership Assessment. This assessment will enable you to identify both your safety leadership strengths and the areas you might benefit from developing further, and ensure that you get the maximum benefit from this program.
